Captivity
Captivity (2007)

IMDB rating: 5.80

Plot: Top cover girl and fashion model, Jennifer Tree (ELISHA CUTHBERT) has it all – beauty, fame, money and power. Her face appears on covers of hundreds of magazines. At the top of her game, Jennifer is America’s sweetheart. She is loved and adored and sought after. Everyone wants her. But someone out there has been watching and waiting. Someone wants her in the worst way. Out alone at a charity event in Soho, Jennifer is drugged and taken. Held captive in a cell, Jennifer is subjected to a series of terrifying, life-threatening tortures that could only be conceived by a twisted, sadistic mind. Inspired by the fact that over 850,000 people are reported missing every year in the United States, many of whom are never seen again, CAPTIVITY, follows the story of one woman who is abducted and tortured, held against her will in a place where days turn into weeks. Her will to escape and survive is challenged every moment by a maniac’s desire to demoralize innocent victims and play out his sick game that has been played many times before Jennifer was taken. A combination of SAW and HOSTEL meets SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, CAPTIVITY is a psychological thriller/horror film that shows us the true terror of the crimes of abduction and confinement that are committed every day by serial killers and psychopaths at large. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Roland Joffe (THE KILLING FIELDS, THE MISSION), CAPTIVITY delves deeply into the minds of both captor and victim with a fresh and terrifying view of this epidemic horror. Being released this summer in theatres nation-wide, CAPTIVITY has been called one of the most controversial films of the year. It’s a disturbing and raw, yet classy and thought provoking film which will leave you terrified, and looking over your shoulder as you leave the theatre wondering if you could be next.

Baby bunny living in captivity, help?
Well I found a baby bunny and I think I’m taking good care if it, but just to be safe I’m asking these.
I prechew hard food for him (carrots, celery) I give him water, and an area to burrow, and a thermal light bulb
I put dirt/soil on the bottom and grass on the top, a water bin in a corner, and food spread out.
Is what I’m doing ok? And is there anything I can do to help him

sounds like you’re taking an awful lot of care of him. I’m no vet, but it really sounds like youre doing enough, he’ll live. You might wanna stop the prechewing after a while though
yourstruly | Nov 21, 2009

I tried something like this once, How old is it? Are it’s eyes open yet, or has it moved past the more helpless phase of its life? If its eyes aren’t open and it still looks rather newborn-ish, try feeding it formula from an eye dropper (you should ask a vet for the name of a good formula and the times to feed it; it was a few years ago, my memory is a bit vague), as they don’t have enough jaw strength for a bottle made for kittens or puppies. Over feeding for a rabbit in this stage is bad (very bad), I remember the vet saying this (thus why I’m a bit hesitant divulging feeding times). Also, even with the best of care and conditions, even professionals still have a fifty-fifty chance of nursing a baby rabbit into adulthood.

However, if it is mature enough that it just looks like a small rabbit, (looks round when sitting, generally fluffy-looking), I believe your care is good enough for it, although I still say you should definitely call a vet for specifics, care for wild animals can be rather complex.

Sleepover (2004)

In an attempt to cast off their ‘less-than-cool’ reputations once and for all, Julie and her friends enter into an all-night scavenger hunt against their popular girl rivals. Hijacking dad’s car, sneaking into clubs, evading Julie’s mother, and even a first kiss—anything is possible at Julie’s sleepover.

How do you deal with a very moody and opininated friend?
Kay, so heres "the deal". I Have a friend who is a little bit of everything a girl does NOT want to deal with. She is overall…m-o-o-d-y. Selfish, gets mad when things don’t go her way, rude, thinks everythings a big deal, and acts fake. You know, we have such gooood moments. But then, it’s all shuddered when everything in "her mind", isn’t correct. Here’s an example:

I was walking into the classroom during indoor recess when I come up to my desk and notice she is sitting in my chair with my other friend. It’s not big deal at all. So i think I go up to her and say, "Get out of my seat. get out of my seat". Repeatedly. Just, as a joke. But I did really want her to go. I was asking her in a joking way. (My group of friends, ALWAYS joke around) So she gets up and goes, "Wow. Thats rude. Now I don’t have a seat. Thanks Hanna." First of all, it’s not my fault. Thats MY seat and if she didn’t get her seat and someone else took it…don’t blame it on me! And here’s another example:

I was at her house, just me and her, for a sleepover. And her parents let her do more things then my do cause they’re younger. So that means shes allowed to walk in the dark. But, I’m not AND not comforatble. So she says, "Come on! Let’s go get some snacks." I say, "I don’t want to. I have cramps – which I actually did – and I don’t like walking in the dark. Then she runs off her mouth, "WOW! THATS ACTUALLY REALLY RUDE! YOUR SO SCARED OF EVERYTHING!" So she runs upstairs telling her mom then comes down saying her mom also thinks it’s rude which I personally think, thats not true.

So you see, she does not know how to act like a good friend. Everytime I confront her, she always ends up saying, "It’s because YOUR RUDE!", "Wow. You get mad at me for the stupidest things!" Or, she turns it around and say I did the exact same thing. Well, everyone makes mistakes but that can’t always be your "go-to" excuse! I try all the time to tell her but it seems IMPOSSIBLE! I hope someone out there can help me cause I honestly, have no idea what to do.

tell that asshole to get outta your life!

Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

IMDB rating: 6.20

Plot: A strange cloud descends upon Klingon vessels and eradicates them with an energy bolt. The Epsilon IX space station alerts the Federation, but they too are wiped out by the entity. The starship assigned to the case is, what else, the NCC-1701. That would be the registration number for the U.S.S. Enterprise, which has been rebuilt. Thus, the entire original crew you knew from the TV show returns. Although they are prepared to face the entity, nothing will prepare them for the ride to come. The film asks the question Paul Gauguin asks in a painting bearing this name: “Where do [I] come from? What [am I]? Where [am I] going?” Trekkers, note the appearance of Will Decker, the son of Matt Decker, who killed himself in the TV episode, “The Doomsday Machine”. The film can be summed up in a single word: beautiful.

Directors: Wise Robert

Actors: Shatner William,Nimoy Leonard,Kelley DeForest,Doohan James,Takei George,Koenig Walter,Collins Stephen,Lenard Mark,Van Zandt Billy,Brown Roger Aaron,Faga Gary,Adventure,Mystery,Sci-Fi,

There was the Sci-Fiction show on television. It was a miniseries called "V" and it aired in 1983-84. ?
I miss those kind of shows. Television and the motion picture industry alike, rely heavily on special effects to carry the story line. It’s pathetic and a waste of time. I know that things change, however, producers have tried to remake so many original shows. And in my opinion, none of those movies or televisions shows are worth watching. Let’s face it, the only remake/ sequel that turned out decent was Star Trek’s sequel of the Next Generation. Because Gene Roddenberry was the influence behind it. Now these producers and directors want to remake "V" and Knight Rider and Battle star Galactica. They want to add their own twist to it and it sucks. Why can’t this generation make it’s own original movies and television shows that will capture the imagination. I know that some have. The remakes do need to stay unmade. WHAT DO YOU THINK? PLEASE, INTELLIGENT ANSWERS FROM GENERATION BABY BOOMERS, X AND Y.

There is a cool show called "Fringe" which is sort of like the new "X-Files."

I watch that with my girlfriend . . .

Battlestar Galactica was great . . . until they wrote "RAPE" as part of interrogation techniques. They lost so many viewers (myself included) when they did that . . . . They just went too far . .. Oh well . . .

There is a new on on Sci-Fi channel called "The Invasion." It is just starting.

I totally agree with you. This doesn’t just apply to Sci-Fi. They are remaking everything. So far most all remakes stink. Knight Rider and "V" need to be left alone, along with Friday the 13th. Although the Resident Evil movies are OK. I didn’t think I would like it because it came from a video game. I guess I’m just partial to female heroes.
Christine M | Jan 30, 2009

Everything old is new again. Though a majority of these remakes are not worth watching (Knight Rider, Bionic Woman), some like Battlestar are excellent. I personally don’t see a problem with giving the remakes a try. Sure we get a lot of stinkers, but those winners are sooo worth it!
Gatecrasher | Jan 30, 2009

At least there’s that movie, Shaun of the Dead. that makes it all worth while.
RAZNA | Jan 30, 2009

you mean good old cult classics, they are the best
Jean Valjean | Jan 30, 2009

The reason this generation spits out crappy remakes instead of coming up with something original is because they don’t have any creativity. Growing up on Nintendo and Playstation results in diminished imagination.

I had a dream that I was bitten by a deadly snake. What does it mean?
It was about a year ago, and I have just started to remember it.
My friends and I were at a mall, just hanging out. One of us decides to go break into the water park across the street. We all went to hop the fence. (Strange thing is that we ALL had season passes, why couldn’t we just go through the front gates?) So after we jump over the fence, we find that the only way to get to the park is to go through a building that separated us from the park. We walk inside and in there we find a car garage with one black car. Also, there are two snakes. Both of them are vipers, red and lack. One of them comes up to me and bites the back of my hand. The other one did nothing. So im standing there, really calm and I say "Damnit" Then all of my friends simply disappear in front of me, except for my best friend. An old lady (that I know, in reality she is really nice) comes out of a dark corner and says something. I can’t remember what It was that she said, but It was something mean and then she locked us in the garage and turned the lights off. I was standing by the car for like 15 minutes when another person opened the back door and walked inside. I know this person too, he is the old woman’s husband. So the mad tells me to give him my hand that was bitten. At first I did not want to then he said it again and I gave him my hand. He pulled out this small metallic thing (It looks like one of those injection guns) and then after some resistance (It looked really weird, and he wanted to stab it into my hand, that was already bitten.) I let him use the thing. He put the needle of it into the bite mark, it kinda hurt. Then he used it to take all the venom out. he let us out of the garage and me and my friend went to the park to ride the rides.

Can anyone tell me what it means to have omeone save you from dying from a snake bite? Also, can you please answer my other question?

Dakota Skye
Dakota Skye (2008)

IMDB rating: 6.20

Plot: For as long as she could remember, Dakota Skye has been cursed with a super power. She has the ability to see the truth in any lie she hears. From small, harmless white lies, to the more devious kind, they have come from the people that she should trust the most; her family, friends and teachers. These lies have snowballed, leading to her becoming bitter and apathetic towards the world around her. Now seventeen, Dakota just watches the world happen around her, unmotivated to join it. She has a boyfriend who plays in a semi-popular local rock band and her best friend from childhood, but finds little joy in her own life. One day, Jonah comes into town. It only takes a few days before Dakota notices something about him that sets him apart from the other people in her life. He doesn’t lie. Through her friendship with Jonah, her eyes are opened to the world around her and she sees that there is something out there more than all the lies. There is a possibility of something different… something better. If only he wasn’t her boyfriend’s best friend. Now she must make a choice. Can she go back to the apathy that has dictated her life, ignoring something potentially amazing? Can she take the leap into the unknown with Jonah, ignoring all the repercussions that may come from that decision? Is he really the person that she thinks he is and wants him to be? The only thing that becomes clear is that Dakota can no longer be a spectator in her own life. She has to look at her life as it was, is and could be and make a choice for the first time.

The Light at the End of the Tunnel….critics please?
The doctors told me I might not make it through the surgery. I felt peace because I’ve had a good life.
My life was luxurious, and I never went without. The only regret I have was not giving a little to help those less fortunate. Oh well. This is capitalism and if they needed something they could go get it for themselves. Of course I made my money the old fashioned way; born into it. If I die, I think I will miss shopping for fine animal furs in the windows of ritzy stores in Milan.
Here it goes. They are putting me under, and strange enough I was awake in a medical slumber feeling no pain. On the contrary, I was feeling pretty damn good.
I saw something. A light. I have heard these stories from weirdos on TV; seeing a light at the end of a tunnel, the pearly gates, St. Peter, etc…I laughed in my comatose state as the light grew nearer. I guess it is true. I can’t wait to tell everyone about this. Maybe I’ll be on the Maury show.
Drifting toward that brilliant light, it had the brightness of the sun, yet my eyes felt no pain, and the warmth was inviting. I had a feeling of weightlessness, falling off the earth, if you will. I was falling or floating, or maybe being pulled towards the ever warming rays, or starburst.
I felt like an angel as I danced and twirled in my blackened tunnel. The tunnel was indeed black, except for the light. Had it always been dark? I didn’t take notice at first, being occupied with thoughts of shopping once I get out of this filthy hospital, and these cretins that call themselves ‘professionals’.
I continued to swirl with delight, making the best of my current situation, toward the heat of the bright light. My ‘tunnel’ was gone and it must have been like space with nothing around except for that hot lux perpetua.
Suddenly out of nowhere, but surely somewhere, I was being encircled by spirits or angels that defied any type of gravity. They are beautiful! They move so gracefully! They are welcoming me, beckoning me to follow toward the light that was now so very large. In my ecstasy I didn’t realize how large it had become. Nor did I realize how hot it was, and growing hotter still. Is it supposed to be this hot? I feel like it is burning my skin.
A feeling of dread came over me as the huge light grew hotter tenfold for every second I approached, as if time even exists in this space with it’s unworldly inhabitants.
My fears eased some as the phantoms, or angels, or whatever these things were, held me without hands, ushering me to a destination unbeknownst at the present.
Without warning I was being pulled, or rather sucked toward this infernal heat as the apparitional things showed their true colors at last.
God! God! God! It burns! Help me God! Help me God! Save me! The light was red and burning a flame not of earth nor sun! I’m sorry God! Forgive me Lord! God get these evil things off of me! I’m sorry God! Please forgive me for my sins! Save me!

The family stood around the casket as it was being prepared for lowering into the ground. Quiet sobs and crocodile tears were more then abundant at the thought of a sure inheritance, and a life on easy street. The immediate family was thinking of leaving for Marostica for the human chess game, and others were thinking of feeding pigeons at Piazza San Marco, for their reservations had been booked, business class, when they received the news the cancer in the breast metastasized to the lungs.
The priest finished, "O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful grant to the souls of Thy servants departed the remission of all their sins, that through pious supplications they may obtain that pardon which they have always desired; Who livest and reignest for ever and ever. Amen.
The brother of the lady who passed and his wife had similar thoughts that ran thus; "It’s about goddamn time. I didn’t think he would ever shut the hell up."
He couldn’t wait to pull off his tie, and suit for that matter, when he looked over the flowers that sat atop the highly polished reddish-brown mahogany casket, and noticed the dead ladys’ sister, his baby sister was truly saddened. He gathered everyone around her, for she was the only one who was missing her older sister.
Her brother made all hold hands as the priest, now completely forgot about, looked on as the brother said his own impromptu prayer; "We’ll all be together in Paradise soon." His heartbroken little sister was the only one who did not say ‘Amen’, but thought it was ironic that the word ‘improper’ is the very next word in the dictionary after ‘impromptu’.
The mans wife agreed her two cents worth and said "Yes, we’ll all be together soon." as she was walking toward her Escalade.
The priest silently agreed with the sister-in-law, and grinned.

You should read the third degree I got under "religion" by a bunch of nuts.
I know kim….when my thoughts go, I neglect a lot….
I know kim….when my thoughts go, I neglect a lot….you should see how they slammed me when I posted this story on the Religious section. They hate me!
Kim, the sister was the only one who was truly sad, and knew the greed of her family. The priest knew them well enough to know that they will be together soon, in hell. I’m so scared!

Powerful and thought provoking.

Marine Mode | Oct 26, 2008

Wow …. okay, you woke me up! I’ll never again take going to Heaven for granted!!

After reading, I’m curious about the little sister. Why was she sad? Why did she not say Amen? And I DON’T like the priest!! Why did he grin?! Seems sinister! ha!

As for the lesson, I give you an A. For English, you might want to proofread for word usage, sentence structure, and then edit a bit.

Work-related dilemma?
I’ve got a decision to make and I’d like some advice from wiser individuals!
I’ve worked in a store for 6 months, part time while I study. I’ve become best friends with my boss which makes life at work amazing. In January she will be moving to a larger store, further away from where I live. She has asked if I’d like to come and work there with her. As I don’t drive, she has said that she will drive us to work, and put us on the same shifts as each other. But what if one day we can’t be on the same shifts? I will have to make a pretty long journey to the other store. My parents would never take me anywhere. If I stay in the store I’m at now, the manager taking over might be a certain individual I have a dislike for. I’d be miserable at my job. These happenings are all secret, I can’t talk to my other colleagues yet. I don’t want to lose my friend, life is so good knowing her, but would it be foolish to move to another store with her?

How do you think the other staff at the new store will feel when they find out your relationship.
You will have no friends and they could make life difficult for you. Stay where you are.

It would be foolish to move if you didn’t have guaranteed transportation (other than this manager). You two could have a fight, you may not be on the same shifts, she may get relocated to another state, or (God forbid) she may die or have to quit working. You can’t know the future. While this is a great opportunity, if you cannot have access to regular transportation (as back-up), I would stick close to home. Is there public transportation that would take you to and from work (bus, train, subway, etc)? If so, then go for the move if you’d like to… just remember to include that cost into your budget. Good luck!

Sorry, bit I think this is a recipe for disaster. It’s fine being friends but one work related problem could tear it all apart. And, as previously mentioned, what if the work force think she is favouring you above them, especially if she is arranging your shifts to suit you? She will then be in a position where she has to be seen to keep her friendship and her work relationship separate. Ok, so your new manager may be a person you dislike. That happens. If you move, your new colleagues may be people you dislike. or worse still, they may be people who dislike you because of your relationship with the boss. Don’t forget that you will be the new girl anyway, which can be difficult. I think you are mixing business and pleasure a bit too much and it could seriously backfire.
